LOOKIN' big on their first day!
I LOVE the kindergarten group! I love their excitement, I love their enthusiasm and of course I love those little smiles! Did I also mention they tell the best stories....
We jumped right into the school year with a tour of the Art room. We had an introduction to the classroom rules and expectations, as well as the procedures we will use when using art supplies. The Kindergartners love looking at the "big kids" aka high school students work. The are always guessing who is working on what and show great pride when its a sibling or someone they admire!
This year I will be using the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci as a classroom management tool. I thought it would be wonderful to offer a little art history with a discipline strategy with a "show me the Mona Lisa" type command.
I learned that Leonardo da Vinci might actually be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. I also learned that a 500 year old painting has nothing on the 'feed store man' who lives right here in Arthur! Finally, I learned that if a student's Grandma says " horses aren't one color so people should color with more than one color too," I should heed the same advice while teaching.
Lastly, while going for 'Teacher of the Year' and showing off my mad coloring skills, I was informed that it was 'okay for grown-ups to color'. It's going to be a FUNNY and informative year!
